Simulation
RMH has a state-of-the art simulation center (Center for Medical Education and Innovation - CME&I) that is utilized by our program for a variety of skills. Our simulation curriculum runs bi-weekly as an integral part of our didactic structure. We want to prioritize practice repetitions and skills mastery to prepare our residents for all aspects of clinical practice. We are always looking to expand how we utilize simulation in medical education, supported by our simulation staff and simulation fellow. Current practice opportunities include:

Our comprehensive POCUS curriculum spans through the first 2 years of training with optional opportunity during PGY2/PGY3 year with a 2-week POCUS elective. Modeled after the SHM/CHEST POCUS certification pathway and curriculum, we utilize simulation training, standardized patients, large group didactics, image interpretation and real-time scanning to ensure adequate skills in both the cognitive aspects of POCUS as well as the technical skills of image acquisition.
We have 3 handheld machines utilized by the program for rotations such as Inpatient Wards, Consult Services (Pulmonary, Nephrology, Hepatology) as well as dedicated cart-based machines in our ICUs and Emergency Room. Our curriculum currently covers:
Cardiac
Lung
Abdomen
Genitourinary
DVT
Procedural POCUS
Skin/Soft Tissue
Our 2-week elective gives opportunity to create a POCUS portofolio and learn advanced POCUS applications such as Ocular, Thyroid, Lymph Node, MSK, Gallbladder, Advanced Cardiac and more!
Procedures
Our residents get ample opportunity to do as many procedures as they like. We have program minimums that all residents are able to meet with ease, ensuring competence and confidence in procedural training.
Through rotations in Emergency Medicine, Medical ICU, Cardiac ICU, Inpatient Wards, Pulmonary Consults, Code Team Coverage and more our residents have opportunities to perform and supervise:

Central Venous Access
Peripheral Venous Access
Paracentesis
Thoracentesis
Lumbar Puncture
